Our Year 8 students have reached a very exciting point in their school life, where for the first time they will be able to choose subjects that they would like to study, rather than all students following the same curriculum. We have asked students in Year 8 to make Option choices for Years 9, 10 and 11 for the last ten years and we believe this has had a significant impact on student’s enjoyment, progress and of course results.

We know making choices about subjects to study for the next three years is a big decision for young people and we want to ensure that students and parents are supported through this process.  We would like to invite parents/carers and students to an information meeting on Monday 21st  January at 5.30pm in the Main Hall, where we will outline the Options Process to you.

The full Option and Parents’ Evening is later this term, Monday 11th March 2019, 5.00 – 7.00pm, where you will have the opportunity to talk directly to subject specialists about each of the option subjects and your child’s suitability for a particular course.  We will also be supported by staff from Connexions, the careers service, to give any advice about courses that may support specific career aspirations.  Mrs Forster Year 8 Learning Coordinator will also be on hand to support students through the Option process.

We hope this series of meetings will help to clarify to parents what is happening at Option time for your child.  We know this can be an exciting time but it is also quite a challenging time for young people as we know they want to make the right choices.

If at any point you have any questions about the Option process please do not hesitate to contact Miss Bruce or Mrs Forster at the college. We look forward to seeing you at Churchill on Monday 21st  January.
