NEW TENNIS CENTRE FOR CHURCHILL

A new tennis centre is to be built at Churchill Community College, a Specialist Sport and Maths College, and will be in use by July 2010. Planning permission for the four court indoor facility was recently approved by planners at North Tyneside Council. This will be a fantastic facility that will allow young people and adults in North Tyneside, Newcastle and Northumberland to develop their tennis skills and performance.

Councillor George Westwater said ’This will provide a valuable new facility for all standards of tennis player and I particularly hope it will encourage and enable more young player to get involved in sport’

David Baldwin, Headteacher, said ‘ We are extremely grateful to the DCSF and LTA for providing the funding to allow us to go ahead with this fabulous scheme, which will enhance the community sporting facilities we already have here at the college’.

Matt James, Head of Performance at the LTA said ‘ Indoor facilities make a huge difference to the number of playing hours in winter and so are a priority as we work to boost regular participation in sport’

The LTA is aiming to increase the number of people playing tennis, keep people in the game and support talented players to achieve their potential.

Watch this website for more details about how you will be able to use the centre. If you are interested in block booking courts for your tennis club in an evening once the facilities open, please contact Lucy Roderick – 2347200.
