PARTNERSHIP EVENT HELPS COLLEGE

Churchill Community College took part in a parents evening with a difference.
Staff and students from Year 7 took part in a fortnight of Creative Partnerships in a bid to improve literacy and self-esteem. And the result and findings from the two weeks were all presented to parents last week.
The staff at the Churchill had noticed that some of the students lacked confidence in their ability in the classroom so the partnership work was devised to help. Four practitioners came into Churchill to work with students and used skills in comedy, drama, music and animation to help students.
On Friday, parents met the practitioners and looked at how the work had helped the students at College. Paul Jennings, leader in ethos and culture at Churchill, said: "It's had a massive impact with the students who took part.
"One of the main aims was to raise esteem and confidence and I have seen a massive growth in students who were doing that part of the event. Before the event I knew none of them would go on stage and talk to people but after the fortnight they all got on stage.
"It's had a massive impact across the College and a lot more students are volunteering to do extra-curricular activities because their confidence has increased."
