STAYING
in Education

In the February half term, Miss Bruce, Miss Edwards and Mrs Huggins took part in the final Teacher International Development Programme to Miami Florida. On arrival they had two days to immerse themselves in Miami culture by visiting South Beach, The Art Deco District, The Everglades, Miami University and a Baseball game.

They visited a local High School, Miami Beach High and Nautilus Middle school where they were able to see the different styles of teaching and learning used in Florida State. Students were very confident, articulate and motivated to do well. They all had aspirations for higher education and clear career plans.

For their final two days they were based in MAST Academy a Magnet School that students have to apply to. MAST’s curriculum is built around Renewable Energies, Marine Engineering and Biology. Student’s choose to study different options in years 9, 10 and 11 and are taught in mixed year groups for these subjects.

This was a fantastic opportunity that allowed our staff to experience and be part of a different education system and for them to share their skills and ideas with colleagues from another country.
