LUNCHTIMES AT CHURCHILL

Churchill Community College has taken the decision to keep students on site during the lunchtime break. This will take effect from 7th June 2010 and will apply to students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10. This will initially be conducted as a trial, but it is intended that the policy will continue into the new academic year from September. This means that all students (except 6th Form) must remain on site during the lunch break and will not be permitted to go home or visit the local shops.

This decision has been taken as a solution to ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and also to respond to the wishes of many of our parents and community neighbors. By keeping the students on site, we can ensure they are appropriately supervised and remain safe this time of day.

The safety and well-being of our students is of prime concern to us and we have undertaken a review of many of our systems and procedures around the College site. A perimeter fence is now in place and there are plans to relocate the College Reception to be closer to the student and visitor entrance.

Please be assured that we have the capacity to be safely able to accommodate students on site at lunchtime. They have access to a range of activities and clubs which are supervised by College staff. We have also heavily invested in our catering provision, so that there are a number of food outlets around the College site serving a range of hot and cold food. In our Restaurant students have a choice of main meals, including meal of the day, baked potatoes or a rice and spice dish. Alternatively students could visit the Deli Bar for pasta dishes or a variety of freshly made sandwiches.

If you have any questions concerning the new arrangements, please contact your child's Learning Coordinator in the first instance.

Your Sincerely

David Baldwin
