Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for the support you continue to give to ensure Churchill Community College is a good school. We are all proud of the success of each and every one of our students and it is because of the help you give that we can secure this good progress.

Our school is locally and nationally recognised for the work we do both to support our own students and to support other schools. As a National Teaching School we continue to use our expertise to help other schools improve. We have been supporting schools in the region over the last year to improve students’ speaking, listening and vocabulary through a government funded oracy bid. We have just begun to work with primary schools to improve oracy before the young people arrive at their secondary school so that they can be ready for the expectations of secondary school. As the regional Maths Hub we help all types of schools to improve their teaching of maths, from Durham through to Berwick

We attract fantastic staff who want to work at our school and help our students make good progress. They are extremely dedicated and always go that extra mile to do the best for each and every student. Young people want to be part of our school and year on year we are oversubscribed in Year 7. Whilst we are extremely pleased to be selected by so many parents and young people we also recognise that this is an awesome responsibility to make sure each young person that starts at Churchill gets the best possible chances in life.

With this in mind I have been honoured to be the Headteacher of our school for the last 20 years. I have seen so much change and have watched the school grow from strength to strength. I have decided that now is the right time for someone else to take over the leadership of the school, at a time when so many things are going so well. They will have so many good things to build upon but will then help to move the school on even further and provide even more opportunities for our young people.

The new person will take over in September 2020 and governors are currently working on advertising my post. I wanted you to know that this is happening and look forward to the great opportunities this new Headteacher will bring to our school.

Thank you again for your continued support as the school moves into a new chapter of its development.

Yours sincerely,

David Baldwin

Headteacher
