Home Learning Update Monday 18th May 2020

And just like that, we are in the final week of this half term.  An incredible 2549 assignments have been set by teachers on Google Classroom and an amazing 11153 pieces of work have been handed in by our students during the past six weeks.  We have sent out over 1000 texts home to congratulate our young people on their excellent work too – how wonderful is that?!  Well done to everybody who is trying hard to keep routines and learning going at home, we know this is not easy and we are very proud of everything you are doing.

Staff have really enjoyed and valued the telephone conversations we have had with many of you about home learning during the past week.  If you need some help with home learning before we manage to speak to you, either call reception on 0191 234 7200 or email claire.scudder@churchillcc.org

Teachers will be setting work for students to complete over what would have been the half term holiday, but there will be less to do so you can all enjoy some much needed time away from screens.

Please do get in touch if children experience any problems when logging into their student dashboard (from the website) or when in Google Classroom.  If you have not seen these updates before, you may find some of the information or videos in the previous posts useful.

The next home learning update will be on Monday 1st June but we will be posting some updates on our social media pages over the next two weeks. If you don’t follow us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, please do so you can stay-up-to date, take part in some of the challenges and see some of the great work our students are completing.

Home Learning Update Monday 11th May 2020

Thank you to all parents and carers for supporting students to produce the wonderful work we have received this week;  yet again, teachers are incredibly proud of the content and the quality.

As we continue to set work over the coming weeks, your encouragement and care will help your child to manage their time and do their best.  We hope the congratulatory messages on our Facebook department pages and the texts some of you receive today will make you feel as proud as we are.

We will be continuing to call as many of you as possible this week, we really value these conversations and your feedback helps us as we move forward.  If you need some support with home learning before we manage to speak to you, we are here to help.  You can either call reception on 0191 234 7200 or email claire.scudder@churchillcc.org

Please do get in touch if children experience any problems when logging into their student dashboard (from the website) or when in Google Classroom.  If you have not seen these updates before, you may find some of the information or videos in the previous posts useful.

For parents and carers with children in current Y9 and Y10 we also set work on GCSEPod.  This video explains how GCSEPod works and where assigned work will be.  Again, please do get in touch if you are experiencing any problems with using GCSEPod.

Home Learning Update Monday 4th May 2020

Good morning, we hope last week’s home learning update helped with accessing Google Classroom from mobile phones.  Please do get in touch if you continue to experience any problems when logging in from any device.  If you have not seen these updates before, you may find some of the information or videos in the previous posts useful.

Many of our students have worked incredibly hard again this week; it has been fantastic to see so much work being completed.  A special thank you to parents and carers for the support and encouragement you are providing at home, we have really valued the conversations we have had with so many of you this week and appreciate your feedback.  We will be sending lots and lots of text messages today to congratulate students for their hard work – there are so many we couldn’t possibly list them all here!  Well done to you all.

deo is about using the ‘To Do’ tool in Google Classroom.  Students are telling us that they are finding this useful and it is really helping them to organise their home learning; we hope you do too.  It’s very easy to feel overwhelmed when you are having to manage your work and time on your own, we try to offer some advice on how to manage that in this video too.

Home Learning Update Monday 27th April 2020

Good morning from Churchill Community College, we hope last week’s update helped with adjusting or maintaining your home learning routines and good habits.

All home learning can be accessed from computers, laptops, iPads, iPhones and SMARTphones. If you need some advice on accessing work from a phone, we have produced two videos, please choose the iPhone or android guide below if you require support with this.  Parents who are new to Google Classroom might find these particularly useful.

Home Learning Update Monday 20th April 2020

Good morning from Churchill Community College, we hope everyone in your family is safe and well.

Today is the first day of a new term and despite school being closed to the majority of students, we do expect work to be completed at home until school reopens.  This means students need to access their Google Classrooms regularly, where they will see their assigned tasks and deadlines.

Mrs. Scudder has created a short video for students and parents about how to work effectively at home. This is available on each year group’s Google Classroom or by clicking on this link for Year 7, 8 and 9 or on this link for Year 11 (previously Year 10).

We have been incredibly impressed with the work students have accessed and produced so far.  So many of our young people are demonstrating incredible determination and resilience in these strange and uncertain times.

Please contact your child’s Learning Coordinator if you have any concerns about home learning, require support or wish to discuss this further.  We are here to support you and will respond as soon as we can.
