Students Prepare to Pay Their Respects

November is the time of the year when we wear a red poppy in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for us during wars.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.

At 11am on 11th November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years continuous warfare.

On Wednesday 11th of November at the end of period 2, all students, staff and visitors will stand in silence for 2 minutes. This is to honour all of the troops who have died in conflicts during WW1, WW2, as well as present conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Churchill Community College students have been buying poppies from reception, to help raise money for The Royal British Legion.

"The students are very keen to do something to mark this very important day, as many have relatives or friends who are currently serving in Iraq and Afghanistan" - Lucy Roderick - Assistant Headteacher.
